Lateral ankle sprains in the athlete

Lateral ankle sprains are common in athletes and their main complications are recurrence and chronic instability, which occurs in 20 to 40% of cases. In case of failure of conservative treatment a surgical management is indicated to limit the risk of tibio-talian osteoarthritis, increasing with each episode of instability.

Arthroscopic techniques of recent development have allowed a better evaluation of the appearance and mechanical properties of ligaments but also a better evaluation and a better concomitant treatment of the associated lesions. Below is an explanation of the ankle ligamentoplasty technique under arthroscopy.
